Just after 10 am this morning, we were alerted for a smoke investigation on Interstate 95 Southbound south of Wilmington. Squad 17 and Gator 17 made the response. The squad located the source in a large railroad tie pile about 1000 feet off the highway. In the meantime, Gator 17 traveled from the Peterson Wildlife Refuge along the tracks until they reached the site. 
Squad 17's crew stretched a 2 1/2" line from the highway to the pile and wyed off smaller hand lines. 
command requested additional engines, field trucks and tankers to assist. 
The fire was controlled in about 3 hours by multiple units and assistance from the railroad. 
units responding were Sqd 17, E17, Gator 17, Sqd 23, 11-1, 21-1 & Gator 21, Gator 18, Tanker 19 and Tanker 33
